A symptom-driven individualized approach to healing through root-cause analysis

  • What is functional medicine?
Functional medicine is an approach that strives to solve the challenges of modern chronic pathologies. It restores cellular and organ level functionality through root cause analysis. This may involve thorough assessments of a patient’s medical history, genetic predispositions, diet, lifestyle, and environmental exposures. Thorough testing is also a cornerstone of Functional Medicine, to identify exactly what is going on in the patient’s body. This may include blood testing, hormone testing, nutritional deficiency testing, and even gut biome and stool testing. By uncovering and addressing what is out of missing or deficient, Functional Medicine doctors can restore balance to the body’s systems and promote optimal health and wellness.
  • Do we accept insurance?

We do not provide primary care services. We will confer with your primary care provider and other specialists if required. We will be working closely with you for preventative, nutritional, and functional medicine to address the root cause of your chronic health problems.
  • Can you do functional medicine along with conventional medicine?
Yes! Functional Medicine providers like Kristin Flowers, FNP-C are fully trained and licensed physicians who have completed medical school and residency training in a conventional medical specialty, such as internal medicine, family medicine, or pediatrics. But, in addition to their conventional medical training, many Functional Medicine providers undergo additional training and certification in Functional Medicine principles and practices. This comprehensive approach allows them to combine the best of both conventional and integrative medicine to provide personalized and holistic care to their patients, Kristin Flowers, FNP-C is a prime example of a Functional Medicine provider who brings expertise in both conventional and holistic approaches to healthcare. Mrs. Flowers is a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) who is Board Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners who offers complete conventional medical services combined with scientifically developed health protocols that go beyond the temporary fixes offered by pharmaceuticals or other traditional medical treatments.
  • What kind of lab testing is ordered?
Some testing can be done through conventional laboratories, and others are only available through specialty laboratories. During your medical consultation, your provider will determine which tests are needed and will review testing recommendations, instructions (for instance, fasting or non-fasting, etc.) and costs. Your financial resources and how much testing you want to do are taken into account, and the plan for testing is reviewed with you. Testing is frequently done to assess nutritional status, including amino acids, fatty acids, oxidative stress, vitamin levels, mitochondrial function, food sensitivities, and heavy metals. Many other tests are available including genetic testing for a variety of conditions, hormone evaluations, bone health, gastrointestinal health, adrenal function and many others. Some testing can be performed at home with test kits to collect urine, saliva or stool. Others may require a blood draw. In all cases, we will assist you in coordinating initial and follow-up testing.

Holistic Approach

Using a preventive approach that focuses on identifying and treating the underlying causes of health conditions using various techniques like precision diagnostics, personalized nutrition plans, and stress management strategies to promote wellness. A holistic approach that aims to identify the root causes of health issues and create long-term solutions. Restorative health emphasizes preventative care, healthy habits, and self-care.

Root Cause
Analysis

I will look at genetic, environmental, biochemical, and lifestyle factors to dive into the root cause of your symptoms. Once I review the full picture I will develop a wellness plan using both conventional and functional modalities. Before considering traditional medication, we will look for effective treatments that are as natural as possible. Targeting your symptoms and treating on an individual whole person basis. Only after natural solutions have been exhausted will I prescribe medication if necessary.

Evidence
Based

A systematic approach using the best available scientific evidence from clinical research to help make decisions combining both clinical expertise, patient values, and scientific evidence to make informed decisions.

Individualized

Unlike “disease-focused” we are “patient-centered” and develop treatment plans personalized to each individuals’ unique needs bridging the gap in conventional healthcare. We believe treatment plans is not a “one size fits all” and your health is an investment in the future you.
